چکیده

In this paper the use of Random Sprays Retinex (RSR) algorithm for global illumination estimation is proposed and its feasibility tested. Like other algorithms based on the Retinex model, RSR also provides local illumination estimation and brightness adjustment for each pixel and it is faster than other path-wise Retinex algorithms. As the assumption of the uniform illumination holds in many cases, it should be possible to use the mean of local illumination estimations of RSR as a global illumination estimation for images with (assumed) uniform illumination allowing also the accuracy to be easily measured. Therefore we propose a method for estimating global illumination estimation based on local RSR results. To our best knowledge this is the first time that RSR algorithm is used to obtain global illumination estimation. For our tests we use a publicly available color constancy image database for testing. The results are presented and discussed and it turns out that the proposed method outperforms many existing unsupervised color constancy algorithms. The source code is available at http://www.fer.unizg.hr/ipg/resources/color constancy/. Keywords—white balance, color constancy, Retinex, Random Sprays Retinex, sampling

Color Correction by Estimation of Dominant Chromaticity in Multi-Scaled Retinex

r a m n m l t bstract. In image capture a scene with nonuniform illumination as an influence on the image quality, especially the contrast and etail in dark regions. Generally, the tone curve or histogram of an mage is modified to improve the contrast and detail, yet this is inufficient as the intensity and chromaticity of the illumination vary ith geometric position. Thus, the multi-scaled ret...

Entropy-guided Retinex anisotropic diffusion algorithm based on partial differential equations (PDE) for illumination correction

Abstract This report describes the experimental results obtained using a proposed variational Retinex algorithm for controlled illumination correction. Two colour restoration and enhancement schemes of the algorithm are presented for drastically improved results. The algorithm modifies the reflectance image using global and local contrast enhancement approaches and gradually removes the residua...

From samples to populations in retinex models

Some spatial color algorithms, such as Brownian Milano retinex (MI-retinex) and random spray retinex (RSR), are based on sampling. In Brownian MI-retinex, memoryless random walks (MRWs) explore the neighborhood of a pixel and are then used to compute its output. Considering the relative redundancy and inefficiency of MRW exploration, the algorithm RSR replaced the walks by samples of points (th...

Interpolation for nonlinear Retinex-type algorithms

In this paper we propose a method to speed up Retinex-type algorithms, consisting of a computationally intensive nonlinear illumination estimation module followed by a relatively simple manipulation module. Speed up is obtained by way of computing the illumination on a sub-sampled image. The challenge is to interpolate a piece-wise smooth low resolution image. We present and analyze the trade o...
